    Have a great Xmas.

AS media - Xmas holiday work

Time to start building those case studies.

1 Pick two texts (one from cinema and one from television). They need to be contemporary texts that
       have easily accessible marketing campaigns

2 Open a new google drive document. Call it 'My Case Study' start collecting information about how
these two texts are presented to audiences across platforms. You should be looking at...

-Trailers, Posters, coverage in both tabloid and quality newspapers, magazines, apps, games, viral
online campaigns, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, fan blogs/parodies, official websites, merchandise.
Everything basically! The focus is on how your chosen texts are presented to different ways, to
       different audiences on different platforms.

3 Here are some good examples of previous case studies, please read them in detail and note how they cover all 3 platforms. Note how each case study is very good at showing how the chosen text is presented to audiences across a wide variety of platforms. This is key to success in this unit.

    -The Dark Knight
    -Three Romantic Comedy films
    -The Lego Movie
    -Skyfall

    good luck!!

A2 Media - xmas holiday work

It's all about completing your case study now.

1 Ensure that you have many examples for your chosen group across all platforms (print, e-media,
broadcast). You should aim to have at least 12 examples to draw from. Also, you need to ensure that
you can link these examples to theory. (3 theories of bias, Stuart Hall, Cedric Clarke, The Bechdel
Test. You should be looking to spend at least 10 hours completing your case study. Use the internet
to find good examples and theory.

2 Ensure that you also have plenty of examples that tackle the new Queer Theory/Identity elements of
       the unit.

3 Answer 2 of the questions below. Ensure that you PLAN YOUR ANSWER IN DETAIL. This process should take at least 3 hours per question. Only when you have fully planned should you put your notes away and answer the questions under exam conditions. Allow one hour for each.

Mainstream media is a powerful influence on the construction of an individual’s identity. Use your case study to explore the impact of the media in the construction of identities.
‘We are defined by the media we use.’ How does your case study suggest audiences use the media to construct their own identity?
‘Social media has only served to reinforce existing values and ideologies’. Does your case study suggest social media has played a positive or negative role in the construction of identities?

‘The variety of media available encourages us to create many different identities for ourselves’. How far do you agree with this statement?

    4 Have a cool yule.

link to a good overall prezzi including some well-chosen youtube clips

the basic spiderweb of life model

gay people - according to the media- biased but interesting film with decent historical context

representation of muslims- excellent first section on what we DON'T often see

great list of representation theorists to explore

basic but useful intro to Stuart Hall's theory.

Nice prezi here that outlines the 4 stages of representation outlined by Cedric Clark

This is very useful, flexible theory that can be applied to all representation case studies

Nice clip here, that outlines the Bechdel Test. Again, Good theory that may well be useful in your exam, even if you are not studying the representation of women.
